We are sad to share that College Mentors for Kids activities have ended for the 2019-2020 year, with the movement to online learning for elementary schools and universities due to COVID-19 (coronavirus). We recognize that many little buddy and mentor relationships are significant in the lives of both people. The rapid recent changes force mentors to say goodbye via email. Some mentors may also reach out to you to ask about continued communication.
In the next month, you can expect to receive an email from a college student in College Mentors for Kids. The email will have an attached letter for your child. The letter, which will be from your child’s mentor or group leader, will say goodbye and thank your child for a great year in College Mentors for Kids. Please share the letter with your child.
After that, your child’s mentor may call you to ask if you would be comfortable with him or her staying in touch with you and your child via email or phone. This is an optional opportunity for your child and his or her mentor to stay in touch. While we look forward to sending a goodbye letter to your child, we share your child’s disappointment in being unable to meet in-person again this school year.
Thank you for sharing your child with us this year! We have loved getting to know him or her each week at College Mentors for Kids! We hope your child can join us for College Mentors for Kids in 2020-2021. If your child is changing schools next year and cannot join College Mentors for Kids again, please express to your child that we are sad that our in-person time ended abruptly and that his/her last year at this school was chaotic.
As our College Mentors experiences have taught us, our relationships will allow us to work through the coming weeks together. Please continue to take care of yourselves and each other in your communities.
