College Mentors Makes Lasting Change for Kids and College Student Volunteers

Mentoring makes a difference. Children in the program feel more confident about themselves. They are thinking about future careers and higher education while still in elementary school. And our college student mentors are developing a sense of leadership, purpose and love for engaging in their community.

{

Our families had never thought that their children would go to college. One of the parents cried and said, ‘Now I believe college is a real possibility for my children.

A Principal's Perspective
{

“My role in CMFK has opened the door for new job opportunities. I was not previously looking into careers involving children, but after leading an activity day last year, I am pursuing careers involving work with children. I see the impact that a mentor can have on a child, and want to continue seeing that impact through my work even outside of CMFK. I will always be eternally grateful for this program and my only wish is that I had become involved sooner!”

My favorite thing about College Mentors is that we get to have fun and learn new things.

A Little Buddy's Perspective
{

I have two kids in the program, one of my kids I really wanted to do this for relationship building, self-esteem building, and one-on-one time. They have enjoyed the program, and their mentor has allowed them to feel special and heard. I’m thrilled and plan to have them participate next year. For any child who is a bit of a loner, this program is amazing to help build confidence, and  help them feel valued and seen.
