We know that the power of human connection and relationship is now even more important, worthwhile, and transformative than ever. That’s why College Mentors for Kids is committed to continuing to foster mentoring relationships between little buddies and college student mentors! College Mentors for Kids will continue for the duration of the 2020-2021 school year.
Whenever possible, and in alignment with state, city, university, and school district regulations, we will implement our on-campus, evidence-based program with health safety modifications.
For many, on-campus mentoring may not be possible. Therefore, we have developed an alternative, virtual delivery of our program called College Mentors at Home. College Mentors at Home was made possible thanks to feedback from our college student mentors, families of little buddies, program partners, alumni, donors, and the Board of Directors, as well as, by benchmarking best practices with our peer organizations in mentoring and after-school programming.
For chapters that will need to implement College Mentors at Home, you can expect the core concepts of College Mentors for Kids to continue: 1:1 buddy pair relationship building and learning via utilization of the resources on a college campus.
- Buddy pair relationships: College Mentors Connect will be an academic year-long opportunity for a few local buddy pairs to connect weekly via video chat or phone. All participants in College Mentors at Home will join a buddy family in College Mentors Connect.
- Learning via the resources of a college campus: College Mentors Live will be an opportunity for families to tune into a streamed college-student-led College Mentors activity once per week. Our expansive network of chapters will give little buddies the opportunity to learn from universities near and far during College Mentors Live.
To determine which model of College Mentors for Kids will be available in your community, College Mentors for Kids National staff, elementary and university partners, and college student chapter leaders will work together in August to review their university and school district guidelines for fall 2020.
