While the last year has been challenging, spring is upon us and it’s a great opportunity to reflect on the bright spots. It’s been positive to remember that the most important part of our program is creating mentoring relationships. With some ups and downs, we have been able to make this happen! When we faced challenges with little buddy recruitment, we recognized an opportunity to partner with other organizations to connect elementary kids with college mentors. We've been grateful to work with some well-known national organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters and also become acquainted with new local organizations like INLIVIAN, our newest partner for our University of North Carolina at Charlotte chapter.
INLIVIAN is a local housing authority in Charlotte, NC that provides many resources to their residents, including afterschool programming for middle and high school students. When we came in contact with Millard McCluney, the Youth Services Manager, he expressed the need for a program geared towards elementary students, and College Mentors for Kids fit the bill perfectly!
We hosted 3 interest meetings for families and now have 20 little buddies registered through our partnership with INLIVIAN. As the Charlotte Chapter was unable to serve any little buddies last semester, they are thrilled to be working with INLIVIAN. Lauren Ducoste, UNC Charlotte's Associate Director of Programming, had the pleasure of observing an activity and loved watching the mentors and little buddies explore various kinds of art. We are grateful for partnerships with INLIVIAN that help make our mission come to life.
It’s because of you – our supporters and friends – that this was possible.Together, we've conquered things we couldn't have imagined. We are grateful to be able to continue to transform lives through mentoring. Thank you!
If you didn't get the chance to attend Inspire 2021, you can view the recorded event! We also encourage you to download our Mentoring Matters webinar hosted by David Shapiro, CEO of MENTOR National, to see why mentoring is more important than ever.
