A Salute To A Former Chapter President For Devoted Leadership
Former Butler Chapter President Sheila Seedhouse was awarded a 2008 Salute to Women of Achievement Award from the YWCA of Indianapolis. The Award recognizes Seedhouse for her [relentless] work in giving back to Butler University and Indianapolis communities through leadership in many organizations.
Seedhouse held leadership positions in the Butler Chapter of College Mentors for the past three years. She planned over 80 activities while serving as a general manager before taking on the role of vice president and then chapter president. As chapter president, Seedhouse oversaw a staff of 20 college volunteers and 80 college mentors. She was recognized as College Mentors for Kids Chapter Leader of the Year for 2007-2008.
During the 2007-2008 academic year, Seedhouse served as the College Mentors for Kids representative to REACH, a branch of the Student Government Association at Butler that promotes diversity and teaches respect and appreciation of differences.
Seedhouse also volunteered on Butler’s campus with Bulldogs Being Bigs, an extension of one of College Mentors’ community partners, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana. She served on the executive board since the organization first began in 2005 and had three “littles” throughout her four years at Butler.
“I am proud of my accolades from the past four years; ultimately, however, the true value of my accomplishments can best be seen in the many lives of those I have been able to inspire,” said Seedhouse.
Seedhouse recently graduated from Butler University in May and began training for her position with Teach for America at the beginning of June.
